Loren Roberts (b.63) is an American artist born in Texas and raised in Oklahoma. After leaving the nest he moved into a little studio apartment in downtown Tulsa-known for its Art Deco architecture and the Tulsa Sound music scene. He found work waiting tables and bartending at The Magic Pan-an upscale French Creperie. It was there that he met many local artists and creatives to study and collaborate with. Loren was encouraged to hang his paintings in some of the downtown restaurants and clubs. He was also offered a few mural painting gigs and once was paid in beer tabs-"I strongly believe in the barter system" he says with a wink and a spirited smile.
Loren now works from his home studio not far from the downtown area and one block from the revitalized Rt. 66. He is a mixed media abstract artist and describes his artworks as Automatic. There are no initial sketches. He allows his unconscious mind to take control of the process as he begins the layering and texturing of acrylic paint. Loren often incorporates old newspapers, metal pieces, jewels and other found treasures into his creations. His work has been described as bold, fierce, sculptural and sometimes humorous or whimsical.
Loren is inspired by museum visits, downtown architecture and his backyard garden where he enjoys feeding the birds and painting.
"I paint to find the birdsong-not the bird...the dance-not the dancer...the language-not the words."
Loren's paintings and digital creations are displayed and privately collected globally. He lives and works in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
